From now on Terre des Hommes’ partners in Uganda may talk about sexual exploitation in the classroom.
In reality they become victims of commercial sexual exploitation.
Ethiopia, Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda all have laws prohibiting the sexual exploitation of children, but in practice there is little to no enactment or implementation of these laws.
This can be contributed to limited capacity and budgets, as well as to corruption.
An average of 2,000 refugees are arriving daily into northwestern Uganda.
“The horror which South Sudanese women and girls have experienced in South Sudan due to the conflict and on their journey to Uganda are impossible to put into words. Most walked for days or weeks through the bush without much food and water,” says Delphine Pinault, CARE’s country director in Uganda.
